OEM Lip Kit Painted
Here is the update where my Lip Kit has finally been painted my Clover Green Pearl. As with all painting, hold the spray can about 6-12 inches from the parts and do not lay too thick coats. The thinner coats are better as it avoids drips, but put enough to cover all areas adequately and evenly.

When applying the clear coat, ensure to give about 20 minutes of drying time on the base coat. The time to wait also depends on the paint, and on my spray can it recommended 20 minutes. Follow directions on your can.

Here I was anxious to see how well the paint matched, so I put it on the car quickly to see. Color match looks good:

Once this was done, I had let my Lip Kit pieces dry for about a week and a half. Some recommend more, while others say less. This is to let the paint cure and harden. At this stage, once it hardens I took out the rubbing compound and swirl remover to make it shine. Stay tuned to see how I did this in posts to come.

Primer the Kit
Car Primer on the Kit
I got around to actually spraying Primer onto the OEM Lip kit. Here are the steps and some pictures from this stage of the automotive painting process.
First step, is to clean the pieces to be painted. I used dish soap on my rear valences as pictured:
My primer of choice for this project, Duplicolor sandable black primer:
Then spray the primer about 6 - 12 inches from the pieces being painted. Here are the rear valences after being sprayed with primer (coat number 2) :

After this was completed, I waited one week for it to dry. You can simply go to painting, however i've read primer takes a bit of time to dry so it wont flex in the future. So I chose to wait one week (also due to not having time that day).
Then the next weekend I Wet Sanded the primed pieces with 600 grit wet / dry sandpaper very lightly. You will notice the primer has a rough gritty feel to it that you don't want your paint to be like. Sanding with 600 grit gets rid of this gritty feel and makes it smooth to the touch, but not too smooth for the base coat paint to stick to it.

How To Wet Sand
I found a good link discussing how to wet sand. As the link will show you, wet sanding is basically sanding but using water, so not to trap the particles in the sandpaper. This way it does the sanding as intended.

Wet Sanding Preparation
Wet Sanding Preparation
So here I started the project of Wet sanding after work and between the days of rain. Here you will see the pieces prior to wet sanding, and afterwards to see how far you may want to go with the Wet Sanding process. Here the front lip and rear valences have been completed.
OEM Acura Front Lip in Burning Red Pearl before sanding:
My weapons of attack: Wet Sand with 320 grit and 400 grit wet / dry sandpaper

Honda Civic Type-R
World Car Fans has a gallery of new spy photos of Honda Motor's Euro-Civic hatchback, apparently in Type-R trim. The lightly disguised Civic looks like it should be a worthy competitor in the european market's hot hatch wars.Although WCF reports that all models of the new hatch will get sportier suspension tuning than the sedan, the real fun is reserved for the Type-R, which gets a 197 hp 2-liter engine - good for a 0-100 km/h time of 6.5 seconds.The Civic hatchback hits U.K. showrooms this summer, after its debut at the British Motor Show. Audi awards Q5 production to Germany
Audi's next salvo in its rapidly expanding softroader arsenal, the Q5, will be built in Ingolstadt, Germany. The announcement came this week, courtesy of Audi's Chariman of the Board, Dr. Martin Winterkorn. Production of the new model is expected to commence in 2008, involving about 1,700 workers. The decision is being touted by the automaker as an important demonstration of their commitment to their assembly operations in Germany. This is the second sign of the automaker's investment in its motherland, as Audi announced not long ago that its coming R8 supercar is to be build in Neckarsulm, a German city near Stuttgart.

Lexus IS 350 almost ready for American Le Mans
announced in December that they would be fielding a team of two IS 350's in the 2006 American Le Mans Series GT2 class and they've been hard at work getting the car ready for competition.
The team has announced that they will begin testing in the next few weeks with the goal of a race debut in July. Although we'd love to be racing this weekend in Houston, building a new, competitive, GT2 car from the ground up is a complex undertaking," said Team Lexus owner Chuck Goldsborough. "Our team has been working very hard to design and build the new cars, with inevitable challenges along the way. Once complete, the task of development then starts and must ramp up very quickly."
Rumor has it that the IS 350 will be producing over 450 hp from a production based V6 with the final weight of the car weighing less than 2,800 lbs. The car will retain its double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, suitably modified for the task and tuned to work with the large BBS-mounted Michelin racing slicks.
The IS 350 is in for stiff competition facing the like of Porsche, Ferrari, and Panoz in the very competitive GT2 class.

SEAT is going to pull the covers off its hottest new Leon so far at next week’s Madrid Motor Show (25th May), with the world debut of the new Leon FR. This 5door coupe - hatch (notice the Alfa Romeo influenced hidden rear door handles) will be offered with two engines, a 200 Hp petrol and 170 Hp diesel with styling modifications to match.
DESIGN: The arrival of the new FR sees the Leon step up another gear in the visual department. In particular, the front air intake design with honeycomb grille is very distinct from that found on other Leons, taking inspiration from the Leon Touring Cars of both the BTCC and WTCC. At the rear, the effect is equally dramatic, with a black mock-diffuser also inspired by the race-track. Silver-painted door mirrors and 17-inch alloy wheels (with 18-inch versions available as an option) complete the look.
The distinctive red and black ‘FR’ badge is applied to not only the rear of the car, but also extensively throughout the sporty interior. It appears on the specially designed leather-covered steering wheel, silver gearknob, within the rev counter (which, like the other dials, features a white background) and is embroidered on to the backrests of the sports seats.
ENGINES: Power is provided from a choice of two engines. Making its debut for the first time in a SEAT is VW Golf GTI’s turbocharged 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit, developing 200 Hp and 280 Nm (207 lb ft) of torque from 1,800 to 5,000 rpm. FAW (First Automobile Works) unveiled its new Benteng mid sized sedan at the Hangzhou Auto Show. The independently developed Benteng (translated “Galloping forward” in Chinese) is the first member of a new generation of Hongqi models. Based on the Mazda6, the Benteng is manufactured in China by the FAW-Mazda joint venture.
Benteng is equipped with a four-cylinder, 16-valve engine producing 163 Hp (120 kW) and a maximum torque of 204 Nm (20,8 kgm) coupled with five-speed manual gearbox. The Chinese sedan standard equipment includes ABS with electronic brake force distribution, traction control and dynamic stability control systems and 6 airbags. The Hongqi Benteng will go on sale in August, with prices in China ranging frome RMB 200,000 to 250,000 -or- USD 25.000 to 31.500.

Visitors can enter the car's show if buy the premium ticket which let you in after 1:00 p.m. on Friday. But no tickets or passes are for sale which invite you to the show hour before 1:00 p.m. Only limited numbers of invitation tickets will be available through exhibitors.
